SMART Omega gains promotion to DPC Upper Division

SMART Omega Esports clinched a seat in the upper division of Season Two after handing Cignal Ultra a 2-0 beating in the Dota Pro Circuit 2021: S1-Southeast Asia Lower Division, Monday evening.

The Smart-backed squad is currently sitting at the top spot of the lower division with 5-1 win-loss standing.

Justin “Tino” Grimaldo was unstoppable in the series. He put up 12 kills and 14 assists against five deaths playing Monkey King to lead Omega in the 36-28 Game One win.

The former Adroit carry upped his game in the following match, registering a 14-1-15 kill-death-assist line using Io to put an end to Cignal’s comeback hopes.

Omega Esports went right for the jugular in Game Two, outscoring the reigning The Nationals champions 36-17 in 32 minutes and 26 seconds of game time.

Omega midlaner Mc Nicholson “Mac” Villanueva, who also impressed in Game One, finished with a game-high 17 assists along with six kills and three deaths using Doom in Game Two while offlaner Jun “Bok” Kanehara had a clean 10-1-11 tally using Lycan.

James “Jamesy” John was the lone bright spot for Cignal in Game Two with 11 kills and five assists against six deaths as Denz “Abat” Anedez’s Riki was held to just two kills, six deaths, and five assists.

Despite the loss, Cignal (4-2) is still on track to claim the second seat in the upper-division as long as they take care of their last two assignments. LilGun (3-2), who defeated both Cignal and Omega, must also drop all of their remaining matches to solidify the Warriors’ upper-division dreams.

Omega Esports will cap off their lower division campaign against Army Geniuses on February 24, Wednesday, while Cignal face Galaxy Racers on Saturday, February 20.
