PH Baseball pool member Tebow retires

Tim Tebow’s debut for the Philippine Men’s National Baseball Team is now up in the air.

Tebow, 33 and an American who was born in Makati, had just announced his retirement from baseball.

“I want to thank the New York Mets, Mr. Sandy Alderson, the fans, and all my teammates for the chance to be a part of such a great organization.

“I loved every minute of the journey, but at this time I feel called in other directions I never want to be partially in on anything. I always want to be one-hundred percent in on whatever I choose. Thank you again for everyone’s support of this awesome journey in baseball, I’ll always cherish my time as a Met!” Tebow’s statement read.

Last year, Tebow was part of the Philippines’ pool for the 2021 World Baseball Classic qualifiers. The tournament in Arizona though was cancelled due to the ongoing pandemic.

“I’ve just got such a heart for the Philippines,” Tebow told MLB.com. “I’ve just really had a love for the people for a long time. To be able to represent them will be really cool — really, really cool.”

After a five-year American football career, Tebow switched sports and joined the Mets.

He went through the ropes, playing for A-level team Columbia Fireflies, A-advance team St. Lucie Mets, AA team Binghamton Rumble Ponies, and AAA team Syracuse Mets.
