Basilan continued its signing spree ahead of its Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup debut.
Jay-R Taganas was unveiled as the latest pick-up of the Peace Makers, Sunday.
And it’s another player head coach Jerson Cabiltes has been familiar with over the past decade as the 6-foot-3 tenacious rebounder played for him in Jumbo Plastic in the defunct PCBL and in Che’Lu in the PBA D-League.
“Napakatalinong player ni Shaq. Yung defense niya malaking bagay sa main,” said Cabiltes.
“Matalino talaga maglaro si Shaq.”
Surprisingly, this will be the first time the 33-year-old Taganas plays in a pro league.
Back in 2010, the product of San Beda went undrafted in the PBA.
He has since bounced around in the D-League, MPBL, and other commercial leagues.
Last season, he played for Bulacan in the MPBL, averaging 5.7 points, 10.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.1 steals per game.
He joins fellow Kuya Stephen Siruma, Chris Bitoon, Michael Mabulac, and Jhong Baloria as the newest players of Basilan.
The Mindanao Leg of the southern pro league begins on May 20.
