One of the Philippine National Men’s Football Team stalwarts is off to a new challenge abroad.
Kevin Ingreso — best known for scoring one of the goals against Tajikistan that set the Azkals on their way to the 2019 AFC Asian Cup — is moving to defending Thai League 1 champion BG Pathum United.
“BG Pathum United is delighted to the completion of the signing of Kevin Ingreso who is the second player who joins ‘The Rabbit’ in this transfer window after Chitchanok Xaysensourinthone and the German-Filipino midfielder will be wearing number 16 for the club,” read the statement of the team.
The 28-year-old is leaving fellow Thai League 1 side Buriram United, with whom he made 34 appearances from 2019 to 2021. He provided three goals and four assists to help the club get two straight second-place finishes.
Beforehand, Ingreso represented Ceres-Negros Football Club in the Philippines Football League, where he was part of its 2017 and 2018 championship squads. He was also a member of the legendary Ceres side that won the 2017 AFC Cup ASEAN Zonal title.
“I’m very honored and excited to join BG Pathum United who won Thai League last season,” said the 5-foot-10 player.
“Personally, I see BGPU as a strong and experienced team with professional management so it’s amazing to join this great club. Most importantly, I have to work harder to help the team to defend its title, and I hope to write another chapter with the club in the coming up season.”
Ingreso is expected to help BG Pathum United defend its Thai League 1 crown and contend in the 2021 AFC Champions League group stage. It will face South Korea’s Ulsan Hyundai, Vietnam’s Viettel, and one of China’s Shanghai Port, Australia’s Brisbane Roar, or Philippines’ Kaya-Iloilo.
