SMART Omega gives Cignal rude MPL-PH 7 welcome

Smart Omega Esports unleashed the Diggie-Estes combo in Game Two to hand the debuting Cignal Ultra a rough welcome through a 2-0 sweep in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League Season Seven regular season, Thursday afternoon.

This is Omega’s second-straight victory after dropping their season debut against Execration.

Jankurt “KurTzy” Matira (Estes) and Jeniel “Haze” Bata-anon’s (Diggie) zoning capabilities made Salic “Hadjizy” Imam’s Bruno untouchable throughout the 10:48-minute match.

Kenneth “Kenji” Villa’s Baxia, meanwhile, played the enforce once more for Omega.

It was a low-scoring, objectives-based match for Omega Esports. The Season Six grand finalist scored nine kills, while Cignal only had one kill.

KurTzy won MVP honors in Game Two with a game-high nine assists while Haze added three kills and five assists.

Cignal core Bryan “Janus” Badando — who played an unorthodox Thamuz jungler in Game Two — only had a kill and two deaths.

Meanwhile, Kenji finally made his first appearance in Season Seven. He played an indestructible Uranus in the opener to spearhead the Smart-backed squad’s 21-11 Game One victory.

The 23-year-old MPL veteran dished out a game-high 15 assists, all while manning the frontline for Omega. He eventually became the MVP in the match that lasted for just 16 minutes and 22 seconds.

Kenji’s aggressiveness provided Hadjizy’s Ling the time to gather enough resources and take out Cignal Ultra’s backline.

Hadjizy finished with seven kills and five assists against two deaths. Adrian “Toshi” Bacallo, who gave Beatrix a winning debut in the league, had six kills and six assists against three assists.

With the win, Omega Esports moved up from the fourth spot to the second seat in Group B with six points through a 2-1 standing.

Meanwhile, the debuting Cignal Ultra suffered their first loss, dropping to the fifth spot of Group A with a 0-1 slate.

Omega looks to make it three in a row against Laus Playbook Esports on Saturday at 6:00 pm. Meanwhile, Cignal will try and bounce back against Work Auster Force on Friday, at 2:00 pm.
