The date for the crucial PBA Board meeting has been set.
Commissioner Willie Marcial said that the league’s team governors will convene on Monday next week to discuss the fate of Season 46.
The agenda for the meeting includes the course of action for the delayed season and the PBA’s financials, which suffered another hit from the pandemic.
The league was supposed to open shop last April 11, with two conferences in 10 months planned to be held alongside the 3×3 inaugurals.
The Ynares Center in Antipolo was a potential venue for the cage wars for a more economical closed-circuit setup.
But everything, unfortunately, has become shrouded with uncertainties, given the COVID-19 situation in the country in the past few weeks.
Metro Manila and nearby provinces were once again placed under the strict Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) from the Lenten break up to last week as record-high cases of COVID-19 were reported.
The so-called NCR-plus Bubble, just last Sunday, has been put under modified ECQ — the second-highest level among the four quarantine classifications set up by the government — until the end of April.
All these developments will be crucial in next week’s meeting as they will guide the league in traversing the health crisis to ensure that a season will be played.
Marcial had earlier mentioned that they aren’t ruling out the possibility of playing in another bubble like last season in Clark, but they want it to be a last resort since it is mentally taxing for all the delegates.
The bubble set-up was also financially draining, as the league had to shell out around P 65 million to pull through with Season 45.
