In another addition during its busy off-season, Kaya-Iloilo unveiled that it has recruited striker Patrick Asare to strengthen its frontline in preparation for its domestic and continental fixtures this season.
“A talented striker born in Accra, Ghana, his career to this point has been an array of unexpected twists and turns. He displayed excellent pace and finishing during his stints in Malaysia and Myanmar, which will be useful for a team that scored more than twice in only two matches last year,” read the statement.
“Asare began playing football at four years old. He actually started out as goalkeeper, until he eventually grew tired of losing and requested to play striker instead. As the story goes, he began scoring goals and never looked back.”
The 5-foot-10 forward first came to Southeast Asia back in 2014 to play for a Malaysian club, only to discover that he was being scammed. He then resumed his professional career in 2016 when he impressed Zwegabin United FC in a tryout, which then earned him a move to Yadanarbon FC.
Asare then transferred to Shan United where he was able to play and score against Ceres-Negros Football Club in the 2018 AFC Champions League preliminary round. Amidst all these endeavors, the 26-year-old made waves off the pitch by finishing his education.
“I’m so excited to be back playing professionally, where I believe I belong.
“I’m so thankful to Kaya for the opportunity, and I can’t wait to show my ability and to work to reach the best form of my career,” said Asare.
Asare joins Jhan Jhan Meliza, Fitch Arboleda, and Ryo Fuji as Kaya’s new recruits with the 2021 AFC Champions League preliminary round and the 2021 Philippines Football League on the horizon.
