Ateneo de Manila University executed a second-quarter surge to prevail over Adamson University, 91-57, in the second round of the UAAP Season 84 Men’s Basketball Tournament, Tuesday night, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Up by 20-17 after the first quarter, the Blue Eagles locked down the Soaring Falcons in the second period and limited them to just seven points. Ateneo led as much as 38-20 thanks to center Ange Kouame’s power move in the paint with 1:31 remaining before the halftime break to seize control of the contest.
Ateneo then saw its lead extend to as much as 59-32 courtesy of a Gian Mamuyac basket with 2:28 left in the third quarter. However, Mamuyac was forced out of the action with 1:15 remaining after he got into an accident with Adamson’s Cedrick Manzano.
Come the fourth quarter, Forthsky Padrigao sank a three-pointer to give the Blue Eagles their biggest lead at 91-57 with 25 seconds left on the game clock.
Both schools resume their campaigns on Thursday. Adamson (5-7) takes on De La Salle University at 12:30 PM while Ateneo (12-0) takes on Far Eastern University after at 4:30 PM.
