Greg Slaughter broke his silence regarding where his next journey in his basketball career will lead him.
And even the 33-year-old big man does not know the answer to it.
In an Instagram post on Sunday morning, the 2017 PBA Governors’ Cup Best Player of the Conference explained what transpired during the time his contract with Northport expired last January 31.
“I expired at the end of January and talked to our team manager [Bonnie Tan] about extending. After our meeting he said he would get back to me,” he said.
“I never heard back then my contract expired.”
Slaughter played four games for Northport in the 2021-22 Governors’ Cup.

But the league went on a hiatus a month later due to the covid-19 outbreak the country experienced.
Along with Nico Elorde and Robert Bolick, the trio’s contract expired on January 31. Only Bolick would re-sign with Northport.
Though a free agent, Slaughter’s rights are held in perpetuity by the Batang Pier. And just like in 2021 when he was with Ginebra, the 7-foot big man cannot just sign with any PBA team.
“I cannot choose where I want to play in the PBA and I have volunteered my services to the National Team multiple times this year with no acceptance,” he lamented. “My rights are held by Northport who has ceased communication with me about staying in the PBA. This is why I was not able to finish the conference with Northport.
“It is similar to when I expired with Ginebra and was given no offer until weeks after I expired thus retaining my rights.”
Still, Slaughter continues to grind and remains ready for whatever opportunity comes to him.
“I am continuously learning, training, and getting better everyday, preparing for wherever I play next!”
