Animam posts monster line as SHU remains perfect in UBA semis

Jack Animam and Shih Hsin University continued their tear in the 2020-21 University Basketball Alliance season, running over Fo Guang, 92-50, Saturday at Taipei Stadium.

Animam was once again at the forefront of the Tigers’ attack, posting a dominant double-double line of 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting and 16 rebounds. The frontrunner for league MVP also had three blocks, three steals, and an assist.

But unlike their first two games in the second round of the tournament, SHU needed a huge third quarter spurt to break away from Fo Guang.

Up by just three points, 39-34, entering the second half, the Tigers surged with a 17-0 third quarter storm. SHU would limit their opponents to just five points while putting up 27 in the quarter to leave Fo Guang in the dust.

Lin Die finally broke out of her slump in the contest, finishing with 20 points built on three triples with six steals and six rebounds. African student-athlete Deborah Onianwa provided the off-the-bench spark the Tigers needed as well, finishing with 11 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks.

Fo Guang, which shot just 18-of-62 from the field, was led by Chen Yuting with 13 points. Yang Wanlin added 12 markers as her side has gone winless in the semis.

Up next for SHU is National Normal Taiwan University in a battle of unbeatens on Sunday.
