Jaja Santiago and Saitama Ageo Medics came out at the top of their group and managed to snag fifth place in the 2020-21 Japan V.League Division 1 women’s tournament.
Ageo Medics bested Okayama in four sets, 17-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-20, in the 5th to 8th ranking round, Sunday at the Saitama Prefectural Budokan.
The National University product poured in yet another double-digit outing with 11 points, including two blocks.
This is Saitama’s seventh straight win dating back to Jan. 23.
Outside hitter Yuka Sato stepped up big time, lifting Ageo Medics with a season-high 25 markers. Meanwhile, Yuri Yoshino and Shainah Joseph got 16 and 15, respectively.
In the 2019-2020 season, Saitama was able to collect the bronze.
Mae Watanabe uncorked 18 points for the Seagulls, but needed 52 attempts.
Syuka Kaneda came through with 14 markers on 11 attacks, two blocks, and an ace for the sixth place Okayama.
Santiago and Saitama will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 27, to open their V Cup campaign against Hitachi at 1:30 pm, at the same venue.
