Denice Zamboanga hopes Atomweight GP winner takes on Angela Lee

ONE Championship has finally set the date for the Atomweight World Grand Prix.

On May 28, Denice Zamboanga and seven of the world’s top atomweights will compete in a tournament.

Being the number one-ranked contender in the division, the 24-year-old Zamboanga will most probably be the top seed in the tournament. Joining her are newcomer Alyse Anderson (5-1), Itsuki Hirata (7-0), Alyona Rassohyna (13-4), Ritu Phogat (4-0), ONE rookie Seo Hee Ham (23-8), no. 5 Stamp Fairtex (5-1), and no. 2 Meng Bo (17-5).

With this tournament, the 8-0 Zamboanga hopes that the winner of the Grand Prix will get a crack at reigning ONE Atomweight World Champion Angela Lee.

“Dapat kasi July kami maglalaban ni Angela Lee. Yun yung inii-schedule nga ng ONE Championship eh nagka-COVID and everything tapos nagkaproblema pa sa dating gym [Fairtex Gym],” the Marrok Force fighter told The Hit List, powered by SMART.

“Hindi na nakalaban tapos yun na nga nabuntis na, iyak.”

Of course, Zamboanga hopes to win it all as it will stamp her class as the rightful top atomweight in the world.

After all, it would shut her doubters up as Meng Bo and Angela Lee have questioned her legitimacy as ONE’s next big superstar. Moreover, Zamboanga wishes that by the end of the Grand Prix, Lee has already given birth and is ready to step inside the Circle.

“Parang hindi ko mae-explain siguro yung mararamdaman kop ag nanalo ako. Sobrang iyak ako doon kung mangyayari man yun,” she expressed.

“Pero gusto ko talaga pagtapos ng Grand Prix kung manalo man ako, sana lalaban talaga siya [Angela Lee].”
