NLEX head coach Yeng Guiao had said previously that Kiefer Ravena’s situation has never been a distraction whatsoever for the Road Warriors.
But it helps, really, when issues get resolved.
The PBA on Saturday finally allowed the 27-year-old to play for Shiga in the Japan B.League for its 2021-22 season after the ongoing Philippine Cup.
Guiao felt much relief with the development.
“Yes, medyo nag-ease ‘yung uncertainties. Nag-ease na ‘yung tension,” he said Sunday moments after their 108-94 win over Terrafirma.
“Personally, I’m a little bit more relaxed because sometimes, nag-iisip ka rin kung ano ‘yung future.”
Ravena gaining full blessing has finally ended what has been a stressful stretch for all parties since signing with the Lakestars last June.
Back then, excitement turned into uncertainty when the league denounced the move and insisted that he should honor his contract with NLEX.
Such a case was definitely no light topic as it merited a thorough discussion by the PBA Board, and was among those tackled by the study group.
Eventually, both sides reached an amicable settlement. Ravena and NLEX have apologized as well for the undue controversy that the issue stirred.
Now, the green light is on for the young star.
As tough as the whole process was, Guiao reiterated that it did not affect NLEX as a whole in any way.
And proof of that is their start to the season. Sunday’s win was their second, and their redemption from a bad loss to San Miguel last Friday.
“It’s just my personal belief that I’m relieved na na-settle na ‘yun.
“But as I’ve previously said, that issue did not have any effect on the whole team whatsoever,” he said.
