Better late than never.
Seven months after stripping Manny Pacquiao of the World Boxing Association world welterweight championship, the organizing body expressed its utmost apologies to the living legend.
In a video posted by president Gilberto Mendoza, he personally went to Pacquiao’s suite to apologize for what happened that saw Pacquiao lose the belt due to inactivity.
“I was fooled, I’m sorry about it,” he expressed.
“You have behaved like a real gentleman and you teach lessons to others.”
Though Pacquiao lost to Yordenis Ugas a night later, the result did not matter for Mendoza.
For the 100th year of the WBA, they are planning to honor the world’s only eight-division boxing champion with the “Champion for life” belt.
“This is a hundred years of the WBA, centennial year, you’re gonna be a champion for life. I have a belt made, and we’ll come with a resolution after.”
This will be Pacquiao’s seventh honorary title in the sport. He was also named as a WBC Emeritus super featherweight champion, WBC Diamond welterweight champion, WBO Super champion, WBO Diamond Super champion, WBA Man of Triumph Rhodium champion, and WBO Legacy champion.
