Chery Tiggo has declined the invitation to play in the Asian Women’s Club Championships.
According to Premier Volleyball League commissioner Tony Boy Liao, the Crossovers begged off the tournament due to health and safety concerns.
Besides concerns from the rising COVID-19 cases in Thailand, the Crossovers are also recovering from injuries that some of its players sustained in the Ilocos Norte bubble.
PVL Conference and Finals MVP Jaja Santiago will also miss the event since she will be in Japan to fulfill her duties with Ageo Medics.
Next in line is Premier Volleyball League Open Conference runner-up Creamline. However, the Cool Smashers also declined the invitation.
The Rebisco-backed squad is still recovering from some minor injuries as well.
“Chery Tiggo declined and Creamline as well. Chery Tiggo cited health and safety concerns,” said Liao to Tiebreaker Times.
With the top two teams backing out, the federation has already asked PVL bronze medalist Petro Gazz if they are willing to participate.
“Nung umayaw na sila, we offered it to Petro Gazz. We are waiting for the response of their management.”
The AVC Women’s Club Championships will be held from October 1 to 7.
