Rajko Toroman named director of Indonesia program

Rajko Toroman will not be the one calling the shots for the Indonesian Men’s National Basketball Team for the 31st Southeast Asian Games.

The Indonesian Basketball Association (PERBASI) announced on Wednesday evening that the 67-year-old Serbian mentor was promoted to technical director of the program.

Under Toroman, Indonesia finished in fourth place in the SEA Games, bowing to Vietnam in the bronze medal match, 71-86.

Indonesia went 2-4 in the FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers with both wins coming against Thailand.

In the World Cup Qualifiers so far, Indonesia is down to 0-4.

During the first window, Indonesia lost to Lebanon twice, 38-96 and 64-110.

Last month, Indonesia fell to Saudi Arabia, 66-95, and to Jordan, 64-94.

Indonesia needs to make the quarterfinals of the Asia Cup proper this August to qualify for the World Cup.

Taking over as head coach is another Serbian in Miloš Pejić.

Pejić, 53, is the current coach of reigning Indonesian Basketball League champion Satria Muda Pertamina.

He is also the reigning Coach of the Year.

PERBASI president Danny Kosasih added that they are hoping to make the final of the SEA Games this year.

Indonesia finished in fourth place during the 2019 SEA Games in Manila.
