SEA Games: PH swimming takes silver in 4×100 medley relay

The Philippine national swimming team struck silver in the women’s 4×100 medley relay just behind powerhouse Singapore with a time of 4:12.360, Wednesday at the My Dinh Water Sports Palace in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Chloe Isleta, Desirae Mangaoang, Jasmine Alkhaldi, and Miranda Renner made sure their lead against Indonesia and Thailand will carry on up to the end to bag the silver.

Thailand tried to catch up but was three seconds short with 4:15.33 to take the bronze instead. Singapore pulled away and cruised to the gold with 4:07.62.

It was actually the Philippines who led after the backstroke leg with 200-meter champion Isleta leading the way with Indonesia not far behind.

Eventually, Singapore slowly crept into the lead starting with Letitia Sim on the breaststroke, leaving the rest of the field to try and chase them.

Indonesia kept it close with the Philippines until the butterfly leg, but Renner pulled away for the second-place finish. The Indonesians were unfortunately disqualified due to early entry from its breaststroke swimmer.

Isleta, who broke the women’s swimming 29-year golden drought, has collected one gold and two silvers.

Alkhaldi almost bagged a bronze in the women’s 50-meter freestyle with 25.62, but instead ended in fourth behind Singapore’s Quah Ting Wen who tapped at 25.49. Isleta ended in eighth with 26.54.

Xiandi Chua, on her part, finished sixth in the women’s 400-meter individual medley with 5:05.98.
