After struggling in Adamson’s first two games, Trisha Genesis finally redeemed herself in the Lady Falcons’ back-to-back victories in the UAAP Season 84 women’s volleyball tournament.
Genesis, who prior to the pandemic was crowned the 22-year-old outside hitter after leading Adamson to the title, was expected to lead the school in the league’s comeback this Season 84.
However, the 5-foot-7 outside spiker went missing in the team’s first matches. Genesis only scored four points in the Lady Falcons’ opening day loss to National University in three sets before ending up with just a solitary point in another three-set loss to La Salle which put Adamson in a 0-2 hole in just the first week of competition.
Since then, though, Genesis has finally taken the lead role – scoring 17 and 16 points, respectively, to lead Adamson’s victories against defending champion Ateneo and erstwhile unbeaten UP.
“Siyempre po as a senior malaki po talaga yung role ko dito sa team and inaasahan talaga ako ng team,” said Genesis after the team’s 25-19, 19-25, 25-17, 25-11 victory over the Fighting Maroons on Thursday night at the Mall of Asia Arena.
“Medyo rough yung first set niya,” chimed Lady Falcons head coach Lerma Giron about the 5-foot-7 spiker out of Laguna.
“Pero kumbaga yung pagiging senior niya pinandigan naman niya yung pagiging ate niya sa team. Nag bounce back siya, rough start pero lumaban hanggang dulo.”
Elated was Genesis as she finally broke out of her slump and led Adamson to a 2-2 standing. She also expressed her gratitude to her coaches and teammates for helping her regain her old, lethal form.
“So, unti-unti ko pong binabawi yung sarili ko para rin makabawi sa team kasi yun nga, kailangan nila ako and kailangan ko rin sila. Thank you rin sa tulong nila coach, ng teammates ko, kasi unti-unti ko nang nare-redeem yung sarili ko,” closed the 2019 PVL Collegiate Conference MVP.
