Scottie Thompson has now emerged as a strong candidate for the coveted 2022 PBA Governors’ Cup Best Player of the Conference (BPC) award.
The Barangay Ginebra star leapt several notches higher in the statistical race, going to no. 2 from no. 6. He now has 36.1 statistical points (SP) to his name thanks to his brilliant performances in the quarterfinals versus TNT.
The do-it-all guard put out near triple-double outings in helping the reigning champions overcome the twice-to-beat edge of the Tropang Giga – the very same team that ended their reign in the Philippine Cup in Bacolor.
Thompson collected 23 points, 15 rebounds, and eight assists in their 104-92 triumph in the first game last March 16. Then he racked up 17-10-9 in their masterful 115-95 drubbing three days later to complete the upset.

The NCAA Season 90 MVP with Perpetual is the lone candidate in the Top Five that sees action in the semifinals. The other is NLEX floor general Kevin Alas, although the Letran product went down to no. 8.
Stats race leader Robert Bolick (39.9), No. 3 Matthew Wright (33.6), Arwind Santos (33.5), and Mikey Williams (32.6) round out the Top Five. Still, all see their bids severely impacted by their early exits in the conference.
NorthPort, for one, missed the playoffs after crucial back-to-back losses. On the other hand, Phoenix Super LPG bowed to Magnolia in the quarters.
Just outside the Top Five, meanwhile, are June Mar Fajardo (32.1), Paul Lee (31.9), Alas (31.8), Mark Barroca (30.8), and rookie Jamie Malonzo (29.8).
Thompson averaged 13.9 points, 9.9 rebounds, 6.4 assists and 1.3 steals through 13 games. He is still playing solidly in the semis.
The pride of Digos normed 17.0 markers, 11.5 boards, and 3.0 dimes in the first two games of the best-of-five series against the Road Warriors. They’ve won both outings, moving on the cusp of another trip to the Finals.
The 28-year-old, all in all, now has a double-double average with 14.2 points and 10.1 rebounds, on top of 5.9 assists and 1.7 steals.
