Tony Bishop remained far from satisfied despite the solid bounce-back outing he put up that ultimately helped Meralco equalize their 2022 PBA Governors’ Cup semifinal duel with Magnolia to one game apiece, Friday night.
The Panamanian forward led the Bolts to the 81-75 victory with 22 points and 12 rebounds – a much better outing after finishing with just a conference-low 10 markers in the series opener a couple of nights ago which they lost.
“I played okay. I still can play a lot better,” he offered moments after the game at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay.
“My shot isn’t falling like I wanted to.”
Bishop shot just 6-of-18 from the floor, hardly an improvement from the way he shot in Game One. Back then, he made just five of his 19 attempts.
However, the 32-year-old felt good about his aggressiveness on offense, which saw him rewarded with 12 free throws. He made nine of them.
“But I was still being aggressive. Getting to the free throw line, I was good today,” said Bishop, a 75-percent free throw shooter this conference.
The Texas native acknowledged that he has to find his teammates more, since he was not able to chalk up a single assist for the first time in the tilt. Still, the veteran cager felt pleased with the way he performed.
“Still kind of finding my teammates. Even though I didn’t have any assists, I was still moving the ball, playing to the flow… Getting my teammates involved and not just being one-dimensional. It was a better game and I’m glad we got the win.”
Now, it’s all about brushing up on what needs to be and playing consistently for Bishop, as Meralco tries to take control of the series on Sunday.
“I have to be consistent – I can’t have a game like Game One,” he said.
“I just have to make sure that I’m being aggressive, playing to the flow and making sure my team is in the flow and playing together.”
