WE.League: Quezada brought in as Chiba takes down Hiroshima

Philippine Women’s National Football Team standout Quinley Quezada played the role of a late substitute anew as she helped JEF United Chiba seal a 1-0 victory over Sanfrecce Hiroshima in the 2021-22 WE League, Monday afternoon at the Fukuda Denshi Arena in Chiba.

With the squad changing a little, we started the match with the words, ‘let’s win with our team’s strength’,” said a translated version of manager Shinji Sarusawa’s comments after his side’s victory in front of 689 fans.

The 24-year-old Fil-American forward was brought on at the 88th minute to replace midfielder Remina Chiba, who scored the winning goal beforehand at the 58th minute.

Sarusawa brought on Quezada to provide some fresh legs for his team as they sought to defend their precarious lead.

“We wanted to score points in the first half and advance to the advantage, but on the contrary, it was great that the players in the back were persistent and protected without showing a gap, and they gave me a lucky score and the flow I think it was a big win that we grabbed and won,” added Sarusawa

The result means that JEF United solidified its hold on fifth place in the standings with 19 points at the back of five wins and four draws. Quezada and her teammates are level on points with Mynavi Sendai Ladies but are below them to their inferior goal difference of minus-1 to the latter’s 10.

JEF United hopes to get its sixth win of the season when it takes on Nojima Stella Kanagawa Sagamihara this Sunday away at the Sagamihara Gion Stadium in Sagamihara, Japan.
