Philippine Judo Federation president Dave Carter was one of five candidates from Bambol Tolentino’s Team Performance that received a disqualification petition from certain members of the Philippine Olympic Committee.
The reason? The group of Clint Aranas raised that the PJF’s business registration has been “suspended” by the Securities and Exchange Commission.
The Election Committee eventually junked the petition allowing Carter to still run for Board Member for the elections on Friday.
Carter, himself a fifth dan black belter in judo, has assured that the federation has still been submitting its annual reports to the SEC.
“We’re good,” Carter told The Hit List, presented by SMART.
“We’ve been submitting our audited financial statements and all those requirements even 2019 and also ngayon hindi pa tapos yung 2020 pero we are submitting the documents and we are good. Everything’s okay with the SEC, we have our BIR, we have our Mayor’s permit, and all that so we’re all good.”
Despite this issue and the on-going pandemic, Carter shared that the PJF never stopped supporting its athletes — both here and abroad.
“Well, the local athletes as I said are keeping form but our national athletes who are stationed in Japan, these are our Olympic hopefuls namely you mentioned already Kiyomi Watanabe and actually we are eyeing either of the Nakano brothers, they’re training very well because lockdowns in Japan is not as tight as what we have here.”
It’s been four years since Carter ran for a position in the POC. But with the success of his athletes during both the 2018 Asian Games and the 2019 SEA Games, his drive to serve the Filipino athlete was triggered once more.
With him being allowed to run once more, the Sports Director of the Judo Union of Asia vows to not waste this opportunity.
“We want to serve Philippine sports, we want to serve the athletes, the NSAs, and kung sisilipin nila things like SEC issues which is not related, tapos kasama yung ibang issues na nilalagay nila, inaalledge nila doon, it is not fair.
“Mas maganda yung takbo lang lahat and then let the people decide. We are very happy na pinagbigyan kami ng Elecom,” he said.
