SMART CLARK GIGA CITY – Meralco avoided being booted out unceremoniously as it escaped Barangay Ginebra, 83-80, to force a sudden death in the 2020 PBA Philippine Cup semifinals Wednesday at AUF Sports and Cultural Center.
The Bolts lost hold of a three-point lead and fell 80-79 with 1:25 to go but Reynel Hugnatan flexed his veteranship, calmly sinking a long deuce to give the lead back to his side with 15.1 seconds left to play.
The rest of the Orangemen then made stops afterwards. Raymond Almazan blocked Stanley Pringle’s lay-up with about seven seconds left. They tossed the ball on the other end and Chris Newsome made the lay-up to seal the deal.
