Danny Kingad back in action at ONE: Big Bang

“The King” is back.

Number-two ranked flyweight Danny “The King” Kingad returns to the ONE Championship Circle as the promotion continues its run at the Singapore Indoor Stadium with ONE: Big Bang on Friday, December 4.

Kingad takes on former ONE Flyweight World Champion and #3-ranked flyweight Kairat “The Kazakh” Akhmetov in a match that has implications on the loaded division.

Also competing that night is Jomary “The Zamboanginian Fighter” Torres, who takes on Ritu “The Indian Tigress” Phogat in the show’s curtain-raiser.

But all eyes will certainly be on the flyweight clash, a match that should’ve happened last year had it not been for an unfortunate event.

Kingad and Akhmetov were on a collision course in the semi-finals of the ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix, but “The Kazakh” had to pull out because of an injury.

Reece “Lightning” McLaren stepped in for Akhmetov. Kingad ultimately edged out the Filipino-Australian to book a date with Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson in the finals of the tournament — but “The King” lost by decision.

At the start of the year, however, the 24-year-old from Baguio City bounced back against Xie “The Hunter” Wei, winning via unanimous decision.

A victory over Akhmetov will put him in a good spot for another shot at the ONE Flyweight World Title, which Johnson will dispute with current World Champ Adriano “Mikinho” Moraes sometime down the road.

That will be easier said than done, though. Akhmetov has improved leaps and bounds since losing his World Title, having won back-to-back matches in impressive fashion.

In the main event, ONE Light Heavyweight Kickboxing World Champion Roman Kryklia will defend his World Title against Murat “The Butcher” Aygun; and Iranian heavyweight Amir Aliakbari makes his much-awaited debut against Islam Abbasov.
