Smart Omega suffers upset in ONE Esports: MPLI

Smart Omega Esports is the second Filipino team to receive the boot in the ONE Esports Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League Invitational.

The MPL-Philippines grand finalist dropped two lopsided games in a massive 0-2 upset at the hands of a retooled Genflix Aerowolf , Friday evening.

Genflix stuck to its winning formula in Game One, picking up the Brody for Bottle and the Eudora for CLAY in the series-clinching Game Two. The MPL-Indonesia 5th-6th placer built a team fight heavy composition around the two with MARZ’s Yu Zhong and Rinazmi’s Barats.

With the Genflix side laners imposing a strong presence in their respective corners, Omega Esports had a rough time taking down objectives.

Marz and Rinazmi continued to be a problem for Omega in the latter part of the match, providing the much-needed muscle for Genflix to dominate the match.

A three-man wipe in the 14-minute mark cleared paved the way for an uncontested lord take for Genflix. Toshi (Alice) tried to salvage the game for Omega, but was overwhelmed by the damage put from the Indonesians.

Bottle, who was just recently promoted from the Developmental League, finished with eight kills, a death, and 12 assists in 16 minutes and 24 seconds of game time. He was also named match MVP in Game Two.

Rinazmi put up two kills, a death, and 15 assists for Genflix while Marz ended the match with an immaculate KDA of 7-0-5.

Omega, on the other hand, was led by Hadjizy (Lancelot) with three kills, three deaths, and seven assists.

Toshi had three kills, four deaths, and seven assists while Kenji, who replaced Haze for Game Two, tallied two kills, four deaths, and six assists.

With Omega out, the Philippines’ chances of getting into the grand finals just got tougher.

Reigning MPL-Philippines champion BREN Esports, Aura PH, and ONIC PH — who advanced earlier in the second round — are all alive in Bracket B along with Blacklist International, who is the lone Filipino squad in Group C.

Genflix Aerowolf will go up against either M1 World champion EVOS Legends or MPL-Indonesia grand finalist Alter Ego in the second phase of Bracket A.
