Fourteen years after playing for Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, Chris Ross was able to settle some unfinished business.
The 36-year-old proudly announced that he has graduated from Marshall, proving that it is never too late to reach your dreams.
“Yesterday, May 1 2021, I officially graduated from Marshall University,” wrote the San Miguel Beer star on his account chrismross6. Ross, who transferred from McLennan Junior College in 2006, averaged 6.8 points, 4.32 assists, and 3.23 rebounds in his two-year stay with the Thundering Herd.
“It was a long time coming but I used quarantine as a time to better myself and [finishing] some things that I didn’t get to finish when I was first presented with the situation.”
Ross would have preferred to march along with his fellow graduates but the commencement exercises were done online due to the present circumstances brought about by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
“I wish I was able to go back to campus and walk the stage but unfortunately I wasn’t,” he wrote.
Ross first played college basketball at the McLennan Community college before taking his talents to Marshall, where he played for a couple of years.
Two years after that stint with the Thundering Herd, Ross went to the Philippines to pursue a pro career. The 6-foot-1 point guard was drafted third overall by Air21 in the 2009 PBA Draft and the rest, as they say, is history.
He has emerged as one of the league’s best all-around players, and proof of that are the numerous accolades he has collected including a BPC award, two FInals MVP plums, and eight PBA championships thus far.
But definitely, nothing means more than being able to fulfill a promise after a long time by finally earning a degree.
“I’m proud and giving myself a pat on the back for never giving up on myself and finally getting it done,” wrote Ross, who took a degree in business management and marketing.
“I’m officially a college graduate!”
