Justin “Tino” Grimaldo’s surprise Sniper pick in Game Two highlighted Smart Omega Esports’ 2-0 demolition of BOOM Esports in the Dota Pro Circuit 2021: Season Two-Southeast Asia upper division, Saturday night.
With the win, Omega Esports forced a tie with BOOM Esports at the sixth spot with identical 3-4 records and removed the Indonesian squad in the running for the second Major of the DPC season.
After dispatching BOOM Esports in Game One, the Smart-backed squad went with an unorthodox Sniper pick in Game Two to close out the series.
Tino finished with 11 kills and eight assists against a death in the 25-15 victory in the match that lasted for just 34 minutes and 16 seconds.
Omega midlaner Mc Nicholson “Mac” Villanueva’s Bristleback backstopped Tino with seven kills and 14 assists against three deaths while the supporting cast of Bryle “cml” Alvizo (Nyx Assassin) and Mark “Shanks” Redira (Snapfire) combined for a total of 24 assists, six kills, and eight deaths.
On the other hand, Randy “Dreamocel” Sapoetra’s Ursa had nine kills, two deaths, and two assists for BOOM Esports while Rafli Fathur “Mikoto” Rahman’s Medusa was held to a kill, six deaths, and six assists.
Omega Esports showed its dominant form in Game One when they obliterated the Indonesians in just 21 minutes and 52 seconds of game time.
Tino was once again leading the charge with a game-high 16 kills laced with five assists in just a death playing Slark in the 32-3 victory.
Shanks’ Lion tallied eight kills and 14 assists against one death while Mac registered a game-high 17 assists along with four kills and a death playing Invoker.
Omega Esports placed second in the Season One of the SEA lower division to earn their spot in the upper division.
Prior to Season Two, Omega lost two of its major pieces in Marvin “Boomy” Rushton and Jun “Bok” Kanehara to TNC but managed to take the number one spot after the first week with a 2-0 card.
However, Omega suffered four consecutive losses afterwards which booted them out of contention.
