FEU-D standout Penny Estacio commits to La Salle

De La Salle University continues its recruiting haul by nabbing one of the top guards in the 2021 recruitment class.

Penny Estacio committed to the Green Archers, Monday morning.

The Far Eastern University-Diliman product confirmed the development to Tiebreaker Times.

“First of all, La Salle is La Salle. When we talked to them, very promising ‘yung mga sinabi nila. They said that they can see their future with me,” said Estacio on what made La Salle’s offer unique.

“As a player, ‘yun ‘yung gusto ko, ‘yung long-term security.”

Estacio, a 5-foot-11 guard, started off his secondary studies at Lourdes School of Mandaluyong.

During NCAA Season 94, he was part of San Beda-Taytay, helping the school to a third-place finish.

He would then transfer to FEU-D a year later.

In his sole year with the Baby Tamaraws, Estacio led the team in scoring with 15.06 points. He also had 5.24 rebounds, 2.65 assists, and 2.06 steals per game.

Estacio will join a La Salle backcourt that already has the likes of Evan Nelle, Mark Nonoy, and Ice Blanco. But for him, he will remain patient, as he plans to learn from Nelle and Nonoy during the first two years of his stay in La Salle.

“Very excited kasi I’ll be learning from Evan and Mark Nonoy.

“Siguro in two to three years, I’m sure na malaki magiging improvement ko. As a team, everybody will enjoy ‘yung pagsasamahan namin and the way we will play sa court,” said Estacio.

With the UAAP Season 84 tournament still months away, Estacio looks to improve on his speed and power in the next few months.

“Siyempre, I will be improving my craft. Magpapabilis ako at magpapalakas. Siyempre, I will be doing extra work individually. Knowing na next level na ‘yung college, I will be doing my part to be ready for it,” he said.

Other recruits of La Salle during the off-season are Deschon Winston, Jared Abadam, Deo Cuajao, CJ Austria, Emman Galman, Benjamin and Michael Phillips, Paul Turco, Ice Blanco, Raven Cortez, and Aaron Buensalida.

Grade 11 student-athletes Kevin Quiambao and Jonnel Policarpio also committed to joining the Green Archers.
