Remy Martin has committed to Kansas. But the Filipino-American still plans to take part in the NBA Draft process.
In a report by The Athletic, the 6-foot guard is weighing all his options as he has been missing in mock drafts heading into the 2021 NBA Draft.
“Martin didn’t appear in the top 100 of Sam Vecenie’s most recent big board, though with his college production he probably could get a two-way contract from an NBA team,” said The Athletic’s Brian Bennett. “He doesn’t have a lot more to prove at the collegiate level, and pro scouts are probably never going to be all that excited about a 6-foot guard with an inconsistent outside shot.
“Still, if Martin wants a chance to go deep in the NCAA Tournament, something he didn’t experience at Arizona State, then joining Kansas makes sense. NBA teams always like winners and playing for a highly respected tactician like Self can’t hurt his development.”
In his senior year with Arizona State, Martin led the Pac 12 in scoring at 19.1 points per game.
However, the Sun Devils finished ninth in the conference with an 11-14 record.
He entered the transfer portal last Friday but still remained in the NBA Draft pool. Martin has until July 19 to pull out his name.
Despite the transfer, Arizona State beat writer Doug Haller believes that he will be inducted into the school’s hall of fame.
“It’s significant, but Martin needed a change. After testing the NBA waters last summer, he returned to Tempe and at times it seemed his heart wasn’t in it,” he said in the same piece from The Athletic.
“If he returns to school, Martin will have a great final season. And one day he’ll return to Tempe for induction into the school’s Hall of Fame.”
