Casimero plans to take care of business for Donaire: ‘Mag-enjoy ka muna’

The Philippines once again has four world boxing champions — two of whom are in the bantamweight division.

Owning the World Boxing Organization belt is John Riel Casimero (30-4, 21KO). Meanwhile, Nonito Donaire (41-6, 27KO) has become the king of the World Boxing Council once more.

And the 31-year-old Casimero made sure to congratulate his kuya after his stunning win over Nordine Oubaali, Sunday afternoon.

“Congrats Filipino Flash, sakalam (malakas) pa rin!” he tweeted.

“Let’s get it, WBO and WBC (owned by Filipinos).”

Though he initially wanted to face WBA/IBF/The Ring bantamweight champion Naoya Inoue, the WBO mandated Casimero to take on mandatory challenger Guillermo Rigondeaux in August 14.

Donaire also stated that he wanted to face Inoue as well in a rematch of their classic 2019 battle.

For Casimero, he wants Donaire to enjoy this moment first as he takes care of business.

“Ako na muna bahala sa chaca, mag-enjoy ka muna.”

Maybe down the line, the two compatriots can face each other in a match-up of Filipino greats.
