La Union opened its redemption campaign in the Chooks-to-Go NBL Chairman’s Cup Season 2021 with an 87-57 rout of Laguna, Sunday at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center in San Fernando, Pampanga.
Eight months after settling for second place to Pampanga in last year’s NBL President’s Cup, the PAOwer vented their ire on the Pistons.
Jayson Apolonio had 16 points and seven boards, and Erven Silverie had 15 points on 3-of-7 from threes off the bench for La Union as it took command after a 30-12 in the third quarter.
Jonathan Ablao also had 15 markers while Gay Lord Pambid scattered 12 points, five rebounds, five assists, and two steals.
Jeff Disquitado scored 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead Laguna as the Pistons shot just 30-percent from the field — including 2-of-24 from deep.
In the first game, Mindoro defeated Zamboanga, 71-64, to record its first victory in the league after its loss to Bulacan last Saturday.
Playing their second game on consecutive days, the Tamaraws Disiplinados led by as many as 25 points and held on to the lead after the Valientes made a comeback late in the game.
Jhon Jerrick Caspe registered a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds as the Tamaraws Disiplinados improved their slate to 1-1.
Complementing him Caspe was Francis Acedillo, who had 12 points and eight boards, as Rodel Vaygan was held down to just eight points on 3-of-9 shooting.
JC Luciano had 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Valientes (0-2).
Jul-Ashri Ignacio and Jeffrey Bernardo added 12 markers each but combined to shoot just 9-of-33 from the field.
