AFF: Rukpinij brace powers Thailand rout of Indonesia for Group A leadership

Behind Alisa Rukpinij’s brace, Thailand stamped its class against Indonesia, 4-0, to start off its 2022 AFF Women’s Championship campaign on a rousing note, Monday evening at the Biñan Football Stadium in Laguna.

This is Chaba Kaew’s 12th straight conquest of the Garuda Pertiwi following their most recent similar 4-0 rout in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup on January 24.

The result saw Thailand take the early lead on top of Group A with three points, just ahead of the Philippines on goal difference.

The Thais imposed their aggressive attacking early and were rewarded with two goals in just the first 10 minutes of the contest. The first came in the third minute with Alisa Rukpinij before Tipkritta Onsamai doubled the advantage seven minutes after.

Indonesia did well to stifle the world no. 43 side from that point on, but 24 minutes into the second half, the latter put another at the back of the goal with substitute Fasawang Ketkaew. A fourth from Thailand with Rukpinij’s brace in the 88th minute all but sealed the victory.

Both teams will resume their respective campaigns on July 6. Thailand will face the Australia U-23 (0-0-1, 0 pts.) squad at the Rizal Memorial Stadium at 4 p.m. On the other hand, Indonesia will try to bounce back when they face Malaysia (0-1-0, 1 pt.) at the City of Imus Grandstand at 7 p.m.
