ONIC PH makes toughest release, lets go of ‘Mr CEO’ Dlar

It’s an end of an era for ONIC PH.

On Tuesday night, the organization announced the release of Gerald “Dlar” Trinchera, the lone remnant of their original five, after playing six seasons for the team in the MPL Philippines.

And it was the toughest of releases for ONIC PH.

“The so-called Face of Onic, Mr. CEO, and of course, The General. Dlar has been part of Onic since Season 4 of MPL PH. He has been a mainstay with the team for the longest time and he showed his dedication and passion to the team with each and every season,” read the team’s statement.

“Dlar has always had a heart of gold. There was nothing more he cared about but his team. He would be willing to sacrifice if it meant that it was for the betterment of everyone,” it continued.

“Thank you Dlar for a great journey together. We are grateful for the time you have spent with Onic. We wish you the best in your future career and may you always remember us in your hearts.”

Playing for Dream High Gaming back in his amateur days, the pride of Malabon City and the rest of the squad was acquired by the Indonesia-based organization after they topped the main qualifiers of Season Four.

Dlar, along with teammates Johnmar “OhMyV33NUS” Villaluna, Danerie “Wise” Del Rosario, Allen “Baloyskie” Baloy, Christian “Iy4knu” Manaog, and John “Zico” Dizon, defied the odds in their debut season and reached the grand finals before losing to Sunsparks in a heart-breaking affair.

The team managed to enter the grand finals of the following season anew but lost to the same squad. In Season Six, the team settled for fourth place before suffering a franchise-worst 7th-8th place finish in Season Seven.

Dlar once again led the team to the finals of Season Eight and eventually to the grand finals of the M3 World Champions but the team lost to Blacklist International both times.

His farewell season with the organization saw them finish in fourth place after losing to Omega Esports in the lower bracket semifinals.
