Toroman resigns as Indonesia head coach

A day before their crucial 2022 FIBA Asia Cup campaign commences, TIMNAS suffered a tough blow.

Indonesia national team program director Rajko Toroman resigned from his post.

PERBASI made the announcement in a press conference on Monday, according to Indonesian website MAIN Basket.

The Indonesian federation did not reveal the reason why Toroman resigned.

Serving as head coach of TIMNAS in the continental meet will be Milos Pejic, the listed head coach of Indonesia during their gold medal-winning run during the 31st Southeast Asian Games.

Toroman, the first-ever head coach of Gilas Pilipinas, was tapped by Indonesia to be its head coach back on June of 2019.

His first tournament with the team was the 30th Southeast Asian Games that saw Indonesia narrowly miss the podium.

Toroman went on to lead Indonesia to a 2-4 record in the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers with the only two wins coming at the expense of Thailand.

After their campaign, Toroman endorsed the naturalization of Marques Bolden so that the program can switch from him and Lester Prosper on the fly.

Though Pejic was the head coach during the Hanoi Games, it was Toroman who has the credit of helping devise a plan in beating Gilas.

Indonesia’s group includes Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Australia in the Asia Cup. The hosts need to make the top eight in order to make it to the World Cup proper.
