Franz Pumaren’s Adamson contract expires

Franz Pumaren’s contract with Adamson University had expired to start the year.

Fresh off three straight Final Four appearances from UAAP Seasons 79-81, Pumaren, a five-time Men’s Basketball champion coach, inked a “two-plus-two” deal to coach the Soaring Falcons.

“Yes, I was renewed for two years, with an option for another two years,” Pumaren bared exactly two years ago.

According to Tiebreaker Times sources, the option is held by the school.

Also renewed at that time were assistant coaches Jack Santiago, Renren Ritualo, Don Allado, and Tonichi Yturri.

Santiago has since left Adamson to coach University of the East.

Sought for comment, both Pumaren and Adamson athletic director Fr. Aldrin Suan, CM chose to stay mum regarding the matter.

Season 82 saw Pumaren’s Final Four streak come to an end as the Soaring Falcons finished in sixth place with a 4-10 slate. UAAP Season 83 was ultimately scrapped due to the on-going coronavirus pandemic.

Multiple reports have hinted that Pumaren is looking to retire from coaching at the young age of 57. Pumaren is also a councilor in District 3 of Quezon City.

During the extended off-season, Pumaren recruited a number of prospects, including Adrian Punzalan, RS Delos Reyes, Andrei Abellara, Joaquin Jaymalin, RV Yanes, Jhon Calisay, and Mario Barasi.

Jerrick Ahanmisi, on the other hand, has decided to go pro and enter the 2021 PBA Rookie Draft.
