BREN Esports’ Karl Gabriel “KarlTzy” Nepomuceno has dreamed of only one thing ever since making it to the Mobile Legends professional scene – to become the best player that the world has ever seen.
And now, the 16-year-old has proved that he is the best after being named the Finals Most Valuable Player of the M2 World Championship grand finals series, Sunday evening.
“Para sa akin, ‘yung pagkapanalo namin sa M2, sobrang laki talaga kasi simula ‘pag pasok ko sa professional scene, gusto ko na talagang maging pinakamalakas sa buong mundo,” shared KarlTzy in the post-game interview.
KarlTzy will be taking home US$3,000 (P144,193.20) for winning MVP while BREN Esports will be bagging home the lion’s share of the US$300,000 (P14,419,320.00) prize pool.
The 16-year-old core player spearheaded BREN Esports’ tight 4-3 victory over MPL-Myanmar champion Burmese Ghouls in the best-of-seven finals series.
KarlTzy put up five kills and 10 assists in the opening game victory for BREN Esports. He was able to hold his ground against a very aggressive Burmese Ghouls composition in Game One to give the lethal blow in the end game.
The Philippines’ child prodigy upped his offensive game in Game Two even more, leading BREN Esports’ 26-4 stomp of the Burmese squad with his Yi Sun Shin. He delivered nine kills and eight assists against one death to put BREN Esports on top two-games-to-none.
Despite the 2-0 start, BREN Esports found themselves in a rough patch after losing three straight games which put their world title hopes on the brink.
Luckily for the Bernard Chong-owned franchise, though, KarlTzy came alive in Game Six. His excellent itemization on his Brody to send the series to a sudden death Game Seven. The 2019 SEA Games gold medalist put the Immortality at the top of his list while also securing the Beast Killer, Athena’s Shield, and Antique Quirass to counter Burmese Ghoul’s execute-heavy strategy.
For the finishing kick, KarlTzy went full circle with the Claude to completely demolish Burmese Ghouls. He scored 10 of BREN Esports’ 19 kills in the decider to claim the title. The M2 Group Stage MVP also had six assists and just one death in the 14:05-minute Game Seven.
