Despite figuring in a tight standoff against Indonesian powerhouse RRQ Hoshi earlier in the day, BREN Esports still managed to open the M2 World Championship grand finals series with guns blazing.
The MPL-Philippines champion went for the late game condition in the series opener. With Claude in KarlTzy’s hands, the troika of FlapTzy (Baxia), Pheww (Mathilda), and Lusty (Atlas) held the early game for their core to go online.
With Claude’s power spike finally reached, KarlTzy became unstoppable for the Burmese side which gave BREN Esports the 1-0 advantage.
BREN Esports then built on that momentum come in Game Two. KarlTzy’s Yi Sun Shin and Pheww’s Selena spearheaded BREN Esports’ 26-4 assault of the Burmese Ghouls for the 2-0 lead.
The Filipinos seemed to have full control of the entire series after the successive victories. But for some reason, BREN Esports dropped the ball, absorbing three consecutive games and putting their world championship hopes on thin ice.
They still managed to snatch Game Six and send the series to a winner-take-all Game Seven. But the BREN five of Allan “Lusty” Castromayor, Karl “KarlTzy” Nepomuceno, CJ “Ribo” Ribo, Angelo “Pheww” Arcangel, and David “FlapTzy” Canon were still pretty shaken up no thanks to their three-game slide.
Seeing his team down, BREN Esports coach Francis “Duckey” Glindro made sure to give his wards the push that they needed to get over the hump.
“Bago ‘yung Game Seven, tinanong ko sila, ‘Gusto niyo bang patunayan na hindi lang tayo sa Pilipinas malakas?’
“Everyone said out loud na, ‘Yes!’ Ang sabi ko, ‘Patunayan niyo! Kailangan natin ipanalo ‘tong last game’,” shared Duckey in the post-game interview.
And the chance to prove not just to their countrymen but to the entire world that they are indeed the best Mobile Legends team in the land is already enough to propel BREN Esports to the top of the M2 World Championship stage.
