SMART Omega overwhelmed by RRQ Hoshi, drops to showdown with Alter Ego in M2

Omega Esports’ tough stand was not enough as the Filipinos suffered a 0-2 defeat at the hands of Indonesian powerhouse RRQ Hoshi in the M2 World Championship playoffs, Friday evening at the Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore.

The SMART-backed squad will drop to the lower bracket and face another Indonesian behemoth in Alter Ego.

Omega Esports entered Game One with guns blazing, capitalizing the early game prowess of Heath’s Jawhead, Hadjizy’s Roger, and YellyHaze’s Selena.

However, a crucial lord steal from Vynnn’s Eudora in the 11-minute mark threw whatever lead Omega has down the drain.

Though Omega took down all but one of RRQ Hoshi’s turrets, the MPL-Indonesia champions were able to keep their aggressiveness thanks to Alberttt’s (Ling) split pushing.

RRQ Hoshi got its much-needed breather after taking down YellyHaze, Hadjizy, and Kenji (Ruby). This allowed RRQ Hoshi to secure the lord and finish the match.

The action-packed Game One went on for 34 minutes and 14 seconds – the longest in the tournament.

Hadjizy finished with 11 kills, six deaths, and 10 assists, while KurTzy had seven kills, four deaths, and 11 assists.

Alberttt led the RRQ cast with five kills, two deaths, and 11 assists. Lemonnput up six kills and 10 assists against nine deaths.

RRQ Hoshi then hit Omega Esports with an unorthodox draft come Game Two, bringing out the Bruno-Rafaela combo for Alberttt and Psychoo, respectively.

It was a quick victory for the Indonesian side, going for the jugular as early as 10 minutes in.

Alberttt uncorked 10 kills and four assists with zero deaths, while Psychoo had a kill and 10 assists with zero deaths.

The Omega Esports-Alter Ego lower bracket match-up will be on Saturday. Meanwhile, RRQ Hoshi will be advancing to the upper bracket finals and face the Burmese Ghouls.

Filipino champions BREN Esports – who lost to the MPL-Myanmar champion earlier in the day – will square off against Todak also in the lower bracket.
