Despite not holding its election yet, the country’s newest national volleyball association is leaving no stones unturned with regard to the national teams.
Stakeholders from the Philippine National Volleyball Association led by Tats Suzara have concluded in a meeting Thursday evening the leaders that will groom the national teams.
For women’s indoor volleyball, the Premier Volleyball League will take on the responsibility of forming it.
The PVL is the country’s first-ever professional women’s volleyball league. Some of the top stars of the commercial league Philippine Superliga have already moved or are in talks to transfer to the teams of the PVL.
“Anything is possible now with regards to who will mentor this team,” said an insider, who requested anonymity.
Once everything has been settled come the elections on Monday at East Ocean Palace, the new NSA will court the likes of Ramil de Jesus, Tai Bundit, and Oliver Almadro to lead the next iteration of the women’s national volleyball team.
Previous head coaches of the PWNVT were Shaq Delos Santos and Francis Vicente.
For the men’s side, soon-to-be pro league Spikers’ Turf will still be its home.
Prior to the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, the Rebisco-backed national team competed in the 2019 Reinforced Conference.
Dante Alinsunurin and the new NSA are set to meet after the elections as well as continuity coming from a successful SEA Games campaign is a priority.
Finally, Charo Soriano’s Beach Volleyball Republic was tasked to lead the charge in the beach volleyball side.
The BVR, soon to turn pro as well, has been the proving ground of the country’s top beach spikers since 2015.
The Philippines finished with a one-silver and two-bronze tally in volleyball during the Clark games in 2019.
Laying the foundation for the national teams is the priority of the PNVA.
“Even if there’s no certainty in the FIVB and AVC calendars this year, the national teams should be formed ASAP,” added the source.
