In what was a formality, Tats Suzara was named as the head of the newly-formed Philippine National Volleyball Association, Monday at East Ocean Palace in Parañaque City.
Thirty-one delegates from Philippine volleyball stakeholders came together to vote on their officials.
Suzara – representing Alliance of Philippine Volleyball Associations – was elected unanimously and will serve a one-year term.
Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas Incorporated’ Ariel Paredes was declared the chairman.
Arnel Hajan, formerly of Philippine Volleyball Federation, was named vice president, while AVPA’s Don Caringal got the nod as secretary-general. Rod Roque of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines and Yul Benoza also formerly from PVF took the roles of treasurer and auditor, respectively.
Composing the rest of the PNVA board are Premier Volleyball League’s Ricky Palou and Tony Boy Liao; Beach Volleyball Republic’s Charo Soriano; National Collegiate Athletic Association’s Fr. Vic Calvo, OP; AVPA’s Carmela Gamboa; and Karl Chan. Philippine Olympic Committee board member Atty. Wharton Chan of kickboxing will serve as the tiebreaker vote.
The election was supervised by the POC.
Immediately after the election, the new federation will send the results to the International Volleyball Federation.
Last August, the FIVB called the POC to organize an election to determine a “legitimate” national sports association for the sport.
