Taguig Lady Generals pick up Chu Bacaro

WNBL club Taguig Lady Generals has signed one of the top free agents in the league in Chu Bacaro.

Bacaro, 35, was one of the top players who entered the inaugural WNBL Draft last February 13 but went undrafted.

For the native of Paranaque, she is grateful to Taguig head coach Bing Victoria for giving her a chance to play in the country’s first-ever professional league for women’s basketball.

Doubts had been creeping for Bacaro after she was not part of the 39 players picked in the online event. But her dad and partner kept pushing her, saying that she still has what it takes to play with the younger generation.

Sabi nila, kaya ko pa naman,” shared Bacaro, who collated combine results of 21-inches in the vertical leap; 14.28-seconds in the lane agility; while logging in 3.38-seconds in the 3/4 court sprint.

Prior to the WNBL, Bacaro remained in the game by joining bush leagues like the Maiden’s League, WSBA, and WBL.

The 5-foot-2 guard added that basketball has been her stress relief after her duties as a teacher in Paranaque High School.

Expectations will be high on Bacaro as she and Monique del Carmen will form Taguig’s formidable backcourt. However, the UAAP Season 71 MVP is tempering expectations, saying that she is more cerebral this time around.
