There will be a familiar face that will take over as head coach of College of Saint Benilde’s seniors’ basketball team.
Charles Tiu has been named to succeed TY Tang as the head coach of the Blazers.
The Benilde Center for Sports Development announced the development and confirmed it to Tiebreaker Times by Tiu himself.
“I am happy and excited,” expressed Tiu. “To be completely honest, I was not expecting it and had no plans at all.
“I guess God has just been really kind to me, giving me so many blessings and opportunities,” he continued as he is also an assistant coach for Meralco in the PBA.
Tiu has been the lead assistant of Tang since NCAA Season 93.
Tang compiled a 23-31 record in his three-year stay with the Blazers.
Last September, Tang migrated to Canada with his family.
And to continue the program he has developed, Saint Benilde did not look any further than Tiu.
Tiu’s staff will include Carlo Tan, Paolo Layug, and Howie Chang.
The Blazers will have a core of Justin Gutang, Will Gozum, and Migs Oczon for the next season.
“The pressure will always be there, but that’s what makes coaching fun,” he said.
“I’m a competitive person who always wants to win, but the end goal is to help these players become better people and to represent the school with honor.”
