Margaret Colonia encountered a tough day in the 2021 World Weightlifting Championships, ending in 14th place among 21 competitors in the women’s minus-64 kg class, Sunday at the Uzbekistan Sports Complex.
The 30th Southeast Asian Games silver medalist in the 59-kg class could only muster two lifts in the Group B of the said weight class to end up in fourth out of the first 11 lifters, taking up a total of 187 kilograms.
Colonia showed signs of struggle in her go-up at a higher weight class when she failed to register 82 kg on her first two attempts, pushing her to a must-lift situation with the same weight in order to make a score, and hence a total. She eventually took care of the said weight for a snatch best.
The 22-year-old Zamboagena then took the momentum and added 105 kg after a successful clean and jerk attempt. However, that turned out to be her last as she could not add three kilograms more to end with the 105 for the portion and the said overall score.
Neama Said of Egypt captured her country’s first total gold of the Championships after taking up a total of 233 kg, a solitary kilo off the silver medalist in Chinese Taipei’s Chen Wen-huei.
Said blew the competition out with her 106-kg golden lift at the snatch, but had to fend off Chen’s stronger clean and jerk of 135 kg.
Despite not coming up with medals in the snatch and the clean and jerk, it was South Korea’s Park Min-kyung which finished with the overall bronze at 217 kg.
Compatriot Han Ji-An took the snatch silver with 99, while the clean and jerk bronze went the way of RWF’s Anastasiia Anzorova.
