V.League: Bagunas, Oita Miyoshi fall short vs Suntory anew

Oita Miyoshi got one set from defending champion Suntory but fell short anew, 25-21, 17-25, 23-25, 14-25, in the 2021-22 V.League Division 1 men’s tournament at the Kumamoto Prefectural Gymnasium, Sunday.

After going off for 26 huge points yesterday, Bryan Bagunas was held to just 14 points built on 11 attacks and three blocks.

The Sunbirds did a good job on limiting Bagunas’ spiking attempts to just 24, far less than 48 yesterday.

The Weisse Adler started on the right note, bagging the first set, 25-21, but Suntory was not to be denied, taking the next three frames.

Oita Miyoshi’s errors were costly again, giving out 38 free points to the Sunbirds, that’s a point more than yesterday’s 37 errors in the five-setter loss.

Alain de Armas tallied 17 points on 15 spikes and two kill blocks for the victors, who rose to 10-4.

Kenya Fujinaka had 11 points while middle blocker import Shikun Peng registered 10 points.

Venezuelan reinforcement Emerson Rodriguez led Oita Miyoshi with 20 points including five service aces.

The Weisse Adler absorbed their fifth-straight defeat, slipping to 2-12.

The V.League will have a month-long break and Oita Miyoshi will return in action on January 8, Saturday, against the winless VC Nagano at the Cycle Shop Kodama Osu Arena, 1 pm.
