Dasma waylays Sabong International, books PNVFCL semis seat

LIPA CITY, BATANGAS — Dasmarinas claimed its semifinals slot in the PNVF Champions League after sending Sabong International crashing, 25-20, 25-21, 25-23 Wednesday at the Aquamarine Recreational here.

The Monarchs secured the top spot in Pool B with eight points off a perfect 3-0 standing.

“Happy siyempre kasi nag rank one kami. Yun naman talaga ang short-term goal namin for this tournament, yung mag rank one sa bracket going to the semis,” said Team Dasma coach Norman Miguel.

With Sabong International knocking to within one, Team Dasma secured a block to put a 24-22 advantage in the third frame.

Charles Absin pulled Sabong International back to one, 23-24 with a quick, before net touch secured the win for the Monarchs.

Madz Gampong, who has been playing consistently for Team Dasma, put up a team-high 12 points along with three excellent digs to lead the sweep.

Mark Calado added 11 markers while team captain Jayvee Sumagaysay had nine points.

Rence Melgar manned the floor with 10 excellent receptions and eight excellent digs while Kris Silang glued things together with 18 excellent sets.

Team Dasma is planning to use its one-day break to work on the team’s conditioning ahead of the Champions League semifinals.

“We just have to work on yung ano, obviously nakita niyo naman nag cramps yung ibang players namin so we have to work on that sa kanilang conditioning,” bared Miguel.

Sabong International, which was coming off a huge upset victory over Global Remit yesterday, fell to 1-2 in Pool B with four points.

Jelord Talisayan notched a game-high 15 points for Sabong International while Absin chipped in 10 points in the loss.

If MRT Negros wins against Global Remit later in the day, they will secure the final semis spot in Pool B, eliminating both Sabong International and Global Remit.

Team Dasma will be going up against the second-ranked team in Pool A on Friday at 4:00 PM.
