Vanessa De Jesus and Duke picked up a season-defining win, earning a 79-64 win over ninth-ranked Iowa, Friday morning (Manila time) at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, North Carolina.
De Jesus played 19 minutes in the game, tallying seven points on 3-of-5 shooting from the field with two rebounds and an assist.
But for the second straight game, De Jesus’s fellow guard Shayeann Day-Wilson led the charge for the Blue Devils. The freshman had 19 points to go with four rebounds and team-high four assists.
Duke created separation from the Hawkeyes during the third canto, holding Iowa to 5-of-19 shooting in the frame to gain a 13-point lead heading into the final frame.
Iowa made a couple of attempts at a fourth quarter rally, pulling within 11 and 10 points on two occasions. That would be the closest it would get as each time, Duke had an answer to give the Blue Devils their seventh win in as many outings.
Celeste Taylor scored 17 points and grabbed a team-high 13 boards to collect her second straight and sixth career double-double.
Caitlin Clark led the 4-1 Iowa with a game-high 22 points.
Duke will face off against the Penn Quakers on Monday.
