Jonathan Grey out for season after tearing left patellar tendon

Three days before Northport’s return to the 2021-22 PBA Governors’ Cup, one of its players suffered a severe injury.

Jonathan Grey tore his patellar tendon on his left knee during the team’s practice at Green Meadows Gym in Quezon City on Wednesday.

It’s the same injury the 6-foot-3 guard out of College of Saint Benilde suffered back in 2019, tearing the same tendon on his right knee during that time.

Expected recovery time for that type of injury takes 10 to 12 months.

Grey, who was the seventh overall pick in the 2016 PBA Rookie Draft, was expected to be one of the players who would step up for the Batang Pier after the departure of Robert Bolick and Nico Elorde from the team.

During the Philippine Cup, he normed 3.1 points and 1.4 assists in 10 games played. Grey averaged 1.3 points in 5.2 minutes of playing time during the four games he played this conference.
