With a big season up ahead domestically and in the continent, Kaya-Iloilo continued its busy recruitment binge this off-season by signing anew one of the most prominent names in Philippine football – 2021 Copa Paulino Alcantara Golden Boot awardee Jarvey Gayoso.
“Jarvey is a player we had the chance to work with for only a very short amount of time last season as he was on loan for the Champions League campaign only,” said Kaya president and general manager Paul Tolentino. “We are looking forward to working with him for a whole season this time and to properly integrate him into the club’s system and playing style.
“We also want to help him further develop and take the next step in his career moving forward. We feel confident we can be a big part in that process, and we also hope to win some silverware together.”
The re-signing of the two-time UAAP football champion comes at a time when the 2021 Copa Paulino Alcanata winners are dead set in their preparations for their upcoming crunch qualifier against Sydney FC in the 2022 AFC Champions League.
For his part, the 6-foot-1 attacker is eager to get started.
“My decision to be part of Kaya again is because my family and I believe in the opportunity and exposure playing here will give me—looking at my personal journey as an athlete,” said Gayoso.
“I know they will look out for my best interests, and I in return will work my hardest for the club.”
The former Azkals Development Team star is Kaya’s fifth signing this off-season. Beforehand, the LBC-backed club recruited ADT products Mar Vincent Diano, Sandro Reyes, and Oskari Kekkonen, while adored striker Robert Lopez Mendy is also set to return.
On the other hand, goalkeeper Mike Casas and club legend Masa Omura have called it a day in his career. Defender Marco Casambre has been sent on loan to Thailand’s Sukhothai FC and midfielder Marwin Angeles has joined Indonesia’s Persik Kediri.
