Filbasket set to go pro, has P1M pot for next tournament

Filbasket has applied to gain professional status for its second tournament slated to begin on March 15.

According to league founder Jai Reyes, there are 12 teams that have already confirmed their participation in the two-month-long tournament.

“It’s going to be a bigger and better tournament and we can’t wait to tip-off,” said the Ateneo product.

Filbasket is currently in coordination with the Games and Amusements Board to turn pro, joining the Philippine Basketball Association, the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League, the VisMin Super Cup, the Pilipinas Super League, and the National Basketball League-Pilipinas as pro competitions in the country.

Reyes also promised a P1-million cash prize for the champion team.

The tournament will be single round-robin and will most likely be held under a closed circuit format.

Competing teams and tournament venues have yet to be released by the league.

“We will be performing regular tests and following strict protocols in this competition to assure the health and safety of our players, coaches, staff, and officials,” said Reyes.
