The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas has registered 21 players for Gilas Pilipinas’ pool in the FIBA portal for the upcoming second window of the 2023 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers.
Surprisingly though, Roger Pogoy was not part of the list.
Pogoy, a mainstay in Gilas since 2016, has been nursing a calf injury that made him miss the last two games of TNT. The 6-foot-2 gunner remains day-to-day.
Twelve Tropang Giga players were registered by the federation, headlined by Jayson Castro, Kelly Williams, Troy Rosario, and Poy Erram.
Former Gilas players Ryan Reyes, Carl Cruz, and Matt Ganuelas-Rosser were also listed.
Completing the TNT contingent are Kib Montalbo, Gab Banal, J-Jay Alejandro, Brian Heruela, and Glenn Khobuntin.
Northport floor general Robert Bolick was also named to the pool.
Rounding out the cast are Thirdy Ravena of San-En; Dwight Ramos of Toyama; Angelo Kouame of Ateneo; Gilas draftees William Navarro, Jaydee Tungcab, and Tzaddy Rangel; free agent Juan Gomez de Liano; and Lebron Lopez of Overtime Elite.
Nothing is set in stone yet as FIBA has set a deadline of 24 hours prior to each gameday for the final 12.
Gilas will face South Korea on the 24th, India on the 25th, New Zealand on the 27th, and South Korea again on the 28th at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.
